Severing diplomatic ties not in national interest: FM Hina
LAHORE: Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar said that breaking off diplomatic ties with other countries was not in national interest, asserting Pakistan wanted amicable relations with all countries of the world.
Talking to media at a prize distribution ceremony of the 27th National Women Hockey Championship at National Hockey Stadium here on Sunday, she said that parliament would take decisions on ties with the US in the larger interest of the country and the nation.
About the prevailing political situation in the country, the Foreign Minister said the country needed to forge the same kind of harmony as it had shown in reaction against the NATO attacks.
Ms Hina said the country was facing multiple challenges at present, adding that national unity was needed on the memogate rather than playing dirty politics on the issue.
“We must dispel the impression that an issue created on the whims of an unreliable individual can force us to demand constitution of a national commission or a Supreme Court bench”, she responded.
FM Khar regretted the fact that the media had been highlighting a non-issue in the wake of many challenges faced by the country.
To a query, Hina said the nation must realise that undemocratic steps by previous regimes did not benefit the country.
Regarding President Zardari’s health and return, the Foreign Minister said the President’s health had improved and he would return to his office before the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on December 27.
Earlier, the Foreign Minister announced a grant of Rs 50 million on behalf of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and gave away prizes among successful teams of the national hockey championship. (APP)
