Didn’t beg Kayani, Pasha for extension: PM
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, referring to his statement regarding COAS Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and DG ISI Gen Shuja Pasha's extension, said that a request shouldn’t be confused with an entreaty, as he never begged the duo to get their terms extended, Geo News reported.
He was talking to newsmen after chairing the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting here.
The Prime Minister said it was on his request that COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and DG ISI Lt. Gen. Ahmad Shuja Pasha were given extension.
Earlier, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday rejected the impressions as well as rumours that the government had any intention to remove Chief of Army Staff or Director General ISI and said only some opportunists were touting this conspiracy theory.
“There are rumours that the government probably wants to remove them (COAS, DG ISI). This is absurd. Some opportunist are presenting this theory before the nation, which is wrong”, Gilani said in response to a question.
He also said that he requested COAS Gen Kayani to stay put as 'war on terror' was/is going on, adding and army chiefs were not changed in the middle of war.
To a question whether DG ISI's London visit was official, he said Pasha's sojourn was under investigation.
