Nasir, Rahim fight back to deny Pakistan Test sweep



DHAKA: Nasir Hossain and captain Mushfiqur Rahim provided Bangladesh a great fight back to deny Pakistan a clean sweep in the two-Test series here at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Overnight batsmen Nasir and Shakib resumed the Bangladesh second innings at 114-5 after a delayed start due to fog this morning and batted throughout the session without being separated to add 86 runs on the fifth and final day of the second Test.

First they avoided an innings defeat when the score reached 132 and since then they are struggling to boost the lead to save their team from another defeat against Pakistan.

Bangladesh were exact 200 runs for five wickets at lunch taking an overall lead of 68 runs over Pakistan.

Nasir displayed excellent stroke play and still at the crease with 76 valuable runs including eleven fours while Shakib batted patiently to make an unbeaten 40.

They have so far made 105 runs for the sixth wicket partnership.

Nasir reached his maiden Test half-century when he took two runs off Saeed Ajmal. He completed the fifty from 90 balls with seven boundaries.

Pakistan were bowled out for 470 in their first innings in reply to Bangladesh's 338.

Pakistan lead 1-0 in the series after winning the first Test in Chittagong by an innings and 184 runs.
