10 Sci-Fi Film Locations That You Can Actually Visit

Ah, Sci-fi movies. Who would not want to sit back and watch a show that presents a world that is away from ours? You can think of Star Wars, The Matrix, and even Avatar bringing to life, locations that feasts the eyes and tickles the imagination. However, not all of them have been made up for movie viewing only. You can even visit some of the movie sets in specific locations across the world. To know which you can gain access to and their locations, check this top 10 list of sci-fi film locations that you can actually visit.

10. Forest Moon of Endor

Home to the Ewoks, which are found in Star Wars Episode III: Return of the Jedi, you will feel the lush plants and the silent forest that has the biggest stumps and the freshest ferns as you take a hike in the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park located in Crescent City, California. You can easily act out as one of the many Star Wars characters as the only difference is the absence of the tree homes.

9. Planet of the Apes Crash Site

Finding your place where apes roam and talk like you is not a pretty site. It can even be creepy or scary. However, if you just want to feel the atmosphere of the plane’s crash site in the classic sci-fi movie, then going to Lake Powell, Arizona can give you a fix you need. The scene of the rocks and the blue water is truly relaxing.

8. Terminator’s Opening Scene

Hasta la Vista, baby! Who would never know where this famous line came from? As you reminisce the old Terminator days in 1984, you no longer need to go back in time to have an experience of the movie’s opening scene. You can go to the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and walk like a stiff robot if you want.

7. Touring Mental?

Touring in a mental health facility may not be the kind of tripping you wanted to experience, but going where one scene from 12 Monkeys was shot, can make a lot of difference. You can feel loco when you visit the Eastern State Penitentiary located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Not happy? Then you’re in for some scare since this place is also known for ghost sightings.

6. Planet Vulcan

Have you ever wondered how it feels like to ride The Enterprise while on hyperdrive, in order to arrive at different planets in various star systems? You may not experience this kind of thrill, but you can go to Planet Vulcan quite easily. In fact, it may just be around your neighborhood where the set is located in Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park in Agua Dulce, California. Don’t forget to do the Vulcan hand sign if you see a native!

5. Bradbury Building

Running for dear life is not as easy as it seems, especially if you are playing the part of being a Blade Runner. When you feel like playing the chase in the old Harrison Ford movie, you can go to the very same building located in the corners of West 3rd Street and South Broadway Street, in Los Angeles California. It is just as complicated back in the day, but it is more colorful this time around.

4. Obi-Wan-Kenobi’s Home

The home of one of the best Jedi Masters can be located in the land of Djerba Ajim in Tunisia. Here lies the legend of the trainers of two opposite forces in the Star Wars series: Anakin Skywalker, also known as Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker. You can even feel the Force flowing into your veins while experiencing the solitude in this location.

3. Gattaca Complex

If you want to tour the place where genetics is practiced in giving birth to genetically enhanced babies, then you can visit the movie’s set at the Marin Civic Center in Marin, California. The architecture and overall design of the building is quite fascinating, even intriguing as it has that semi-futuristic concept with the roof, the interiors, and even the outdoors.

2. Mount Doom in Mordor

Going to the darker side of Middle-Earth was never relaxing to begin with, knowing that orcs and other minions can hunt you down dead. But if you want to see the place that has served as an inspiration for Sauron’s den from Lord of the Rings, then checking out Mount Ngauruhoe in Tongariro National Park, New Zealand can satisfy your Tolkien craving.

1. Pandora

You no longer need to ride on a ship that can take you to the Alpha Centauri star system, just to reach Pandora. You won’t even have to use Avatars just to stroll along its lush tropical landscapes and breathtaking views. The said sci-fi set can be visited in the island of Kauai in Hawaii. You can say Aloha to the falls, the trees, and even the overview of the Pacific Ocean from the mountain.
