There is an increasing rate of teenage pregnancies as we come to the age of innovation and development. While technology is on the rise, the moral compromise of teenagers these days are increasing too. In fact, technological evolution serves as channels for these young ones to be exposed in various pornographic materials at an early age, which can be accessed quickly where it can be, viewed anywhere, even in your mobile phones. Hence, there are various reasons ruled out by various organizations and associations why teenage pregnancy increases. Some of which are poverty, dysfunctional families, early school failures, and early behavior problems. Much of the chaos and emotional problems could be felt by these teens because they do not know how to handle such dilemmas. Here are the figures and countries that need to make better program implementation to decrease early pregnancy, lets see the list of Top 10 Countries with Highest Rate of Teenage Pregnancies in 2012
10. Australia
Based on studies and reports collected by various agencies in Australia, major contributions to the decreasing rate of teenage pregnancies are the campaigns and awareness through sexual education and counseling, which was the root cause of the problems that they have seen since 1970s. From the seventh rank last year, it went down to number 10. The report shows that 589,796 births were recorded per 1 million people.
9. Canada
From number 4 rank last year, it went down to number 9. Hence, the teenage pregnancy rate is about 607,224 births per 1 million people. Much of these rates are collectively generated from these major areas in Canada such as Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec, which are known as small towns. Hence, through an increased educational awareness and contraceptive usage, the figures have decreased considerably.
8. Portugal
Last year, it is not included in the list, but adolescence pregnancy has increased as this year began. Various factors such as socioeconomic status and family restructuring are the reasons why it went up, where it is now numbered on this list, with 700,644 births per 1 million people are recorded this year.
7. Ireland
It is also not included with last year’s list and based on the figures, it has recorded 781, 375 teenage pregnancies for every one million people. Although there are family planning programs implemented along with sex and relationship education, but those were not sufficient despite of the increasing efforts of health agencies had made.
6. Poland
Last year, it ranked number 2 for the highest teenage pregnancy. The ranking went down to number 6 due to sexual education that they have implemented and campaigned for abstinence of practicing sexual intercourse. It shows that 788,760 are recorded pregnancies in teens for every 1 million people.
5. Iceland
This is also one of the countries that are not part of the list last year but it zoomed to the fifth ranking wherein 889,677 births among teens were recorded for every one million people. In fact, the pregnancy age range is under 20 in females despite of the declining ratio in abortion rate where it is closely identified with the cultural norms and the society that these teenagers are brought up with. The goal is still on sexual education, which is really limited in some areas of the country.
4. Hungary
Last year, it ranked number 10 but it went up to number four wherein 916,858 pregnancies in teens were recorded for every one million people. Much of its contributions are early exposure in vices such as in alcohol and because of poverty where decrease in morality has become prevalent in the family and society.
3. New Zealand
This is also one of the countries not included in this list, but it went up to number three due to the 972,491 births among teens for every one million people. It occurred on teenagers below 20 years old. Despite of the number of women who have opted to used contraceptives, but early pregnancy is one of the main problems in this country since 1980.
2. Slovakia
There are huge problems that need to be solved in the country wherein it has increased greatly this year by 12% to 14% wherein 1,112,870 are being born on young ones for every one million people. It is because of this high ratio, where incest contributes to majority of the number of early pregnancies. Much of the teenagers in the poverty line could not even go to school where they are not oriented to sex education properly. It affects much of their decisions to form a family or find ways to be happy through early relationships.
1. United States
For the past few years, it has kept the top rank among all other countries that have the highest teenage pregnancies and it does not change despite of the programs and other activities that they are implementing. For this year, it has recorded 1,671,630 teenage pregnancies for every one million people. In fact, based on the recent report, 13% of teens had experienced sexual activities at age 15, while unmarried teens compose of about 27% to 37% in young girls and 28% to 50% to male teenagers.
